  • Where do we take our trash? Where is the dump?
    All of the recycle centers are closed on Sundays, some are closed an additional day as well. Please check the operating hours before you go.   • How do I use the wood stove fireplace?
    OPEN PEEP HOLE on front cabin door (to help with air circulation, especially if the fireplace is cold) The key is to START SMALL with paper and twigs, gradually add larger wood. Leave the fireplace door cracked open and top chimney handle pulled out towards you. When fire gets going, close the fireplace door fully, open the button panel on bottom right and press "manual" to turn fan on. Turn knob to set high or low. If smoke starts to pour out into the cabin instead of up the chimney, OPEN A CABIN DOOR to help with air circulation. Do not add more wood if this occurs.   • Why is the hot water not working?
    Confirm the bucket has been removed from the vent in the front garden bed. This is the steam vent and needs to be uncovered upon arrival. Clean out the water filter (this is usually the culprit for most shower/sink water temperature/pressure issues). For detailed filter cleaning instructions, refer to "How do I clean the water filter?" in FAQ.
  • What do I do if the A/C or heat isn’t working?
    In the "Guest Info" section of your account page, follow the instructions provided under "Troubleshooting": Follow the troubleshooting steps first Call Maria and/or HVAC people
  • Is there internet/Wi-Fi and cell service at the cabin?
    Yes, there is internet but it goes down frequently when the signal between the towers gets disrupted by the trees. If you're having wifi issues during your stay, please call Skyrunner internet at 828-258-8562 and ask them to reset the wifi. This usually fixes the problem immediately. Their tech service is open 24/7. There is a landline house phone at the cabin available to use. The phone number will be provided upon approval of your account as a guest of The Welch Cabin.
  • How do I clean out the water filter?
    How-to video link: https://youtu.be/Yew3abZ4iY0 Step-by-step instructions: Turn blue levers (to right & left of filter) to shut the water flow off for this area. Holding the large bowl under the filter, SLOWLY turn blue lever (at bottom of filter) to open, releasing a small amount of water into the bowl. Keep the water bowl underneath the filter for the next step. Using the blue rubber grips provided and with the bowl underneath, untwist the filter enclosure by hand to release filter cover. Water will pour out while you do this. Take the dirty filter tube out of the clear plastic enclosure & reattach the enclosure back on to the pipe. Close the blue lever on the bottom of the enclosure. SLOWLY turn the top 2 levers back on. The plastic enclosure will fill up with water. (This is so that you have running water to wash out the filter upstairs.) Dump bowl of dirty water outside. Take dirty filter to the upstairs kitchen sink & wash out thoroughly. Take empty bowl and cleaned filter back down to the basement. Repeat steps 1 through 3 and then replace the filter back inside the plastic enclosure. Twist by hand to reattach (do not over tighten!) Close blue lever at bottom of filter. SLOWLY turn blue levers (to right & left of filter) back to their original positions to turn water flow back on. Do not touch any levers besides the ones indicated. IF YOU HAVE ARE HAVING TROUBLES, PLEASE DO NOT SKIP CLEANING THE FILTER. CONTACT THE WELCH FAMILY FOR ASSISTANCE.
  • Where are the clean bed linens?
    Clean linens can be found in the bedroom closets or in the upstairs bathroom closet. Sometimes, they will be in the dryer from the last guest. There should be clean ones on the beds upon arrival. If not, please let Maria know at TheWelchCabin@gmail.com. Every guest should wash and place the linens on the beds before departure.
  • Is there anything to help with the bugs?
    We have bug bombs, bug sprays, hornet killer, etc. in the kitchen sink cabinet. There are also battery-powered zapping swatters located in the bucket next to the front door. These are helpful outside with the carpenter bees (it only stuns them so you have to kill them with a shoe or something after stunning them). Unfortunately, there will always be bugs but we do anticipate the issue to decrease over the next year now that we have regular pest control servicing.   • What is the gate code? Where is the house key?
    All of this information is included under "Guest Info" in your account menu. Once you create your account and the admin has granted you access to login, you will find all this information provided. If you need immediate assistance, please contact Maria Welch or another family member.
  • What do I need to do when I arrive for my stay/depart after my stay?
    Arrival and departure instructions are provided: On the side of the fridge. Under "Guest Info" in your account menu. Once you create your account and the admin has granted you access to login, you can access this page.
  • Something isn't working and I'm staying at the cabin now, who do I call?
    Please refer to "Guest Info" under your account menu when you log in. There is a section with main points of contact and for troubleshooting issues. If you need immediate assistance, please contact Maria Welch.
  • Is there anything we can do about the bees and hornets?
    There are bee and hornet traps around the property that may need to be refilled (any combo of dawn dish soap with apple cider vinegar, beer, sugar, etc. will work for the traps). There are also battery-powered zapping swatters located in the bucket next to the front door.   • Is there a printer at the cabin?
    Yes, in the upstairs loft to the right of the desk in the corner. Please close all the paper trays when you're finished using so bugs don't get inside it.
  • Do I need to make an account if I already frequently visit the cabin or I'm extended family?
    Yes. All friends and family need to have an account in order to use the cabin starting Oct 2022. In addition to providing updated gate codes (which change quarterly), it also includes a forum for important, time-sensitive information. The next guest who stays at the cabin after you leave will need to know things like what groceries we have/need, current issues to be aware of, if the internet is down, etc. Posting this information on the members forum is the best way to ensure every guest has the most up-to-date info before their visit.   • How do I set up an account on this site so I can stay at the cabin?

  • Where do I find gate code and house key information?
    All of this information is included under "Guest Info" in your account menu. Once you create your account and the admin has granted you access to login, you will find all this information provided. If you need immediate assistance, please contact Maria Welch or another family member.
  • Why can't I book a visit on the website?
    The "How to Visit" page of the website is only to provide updated availability and amenities info. In order to request a reservation, you must follow the steps indicated under "Reservation Process" located under the calendar.
  • Who do I contact to request a reservation?

  • What is there to do around the cabin?
    Please refer to the "Things To Do" page of the website, or visit here. [ UNDER CONSTRUCTION ]
  • Can we go to the Camp Jellystone Park at the bottom of the mountain?
    Off-season: No visitors unless you have an overnight reservation at the camp. Peak-Season: Admission passes are available here: https://www.campgoldenvalley.com

How to set up your account

Follow the instructions below to create an account.

Once you have done this, if you need help finding the private "Guest Info" page, follow the instructions HERE

1.) Click the account login icon in the top right & follow the instructions to set up your account.
